The February Stableford played on the 1st benefitted from the fine weather conditions and firm ground as we played over 16 holes. Simon Chadwick’s 37 points was the best score of the day and gave him the win in Division 1 with Alex Walkinshaw on 36 points in 2nd place. A further point back was Derek Hood taking third. Similarly in Division 2, two points covered the top three with Simon Rodham taking first place on 36 points.It was Ian Blackstone who took second place on 35 points with Glenn Manby third after a countback featuring four players tied on 34 points. This left David May, Men’s Captain Dave Walkinshaw and Graham Adams 4th, 5th and 6th. A tight finish in Division 3, gave us three players tied on 34 points but they were contesting second place after Graham Denison came home on 35 points and the win. The first Tuesday of the month saw eleven Ladies playingtheir first qualifying competition of the year. Heavy rain was forecast so everyone opted to play the 9-hole Stableford.Good scoring from Nicola Butters gave her the win by two clear points from Lynn Shears and Louise Wright tied on 16 points.
Back to 18 holes for the mid-week Stableford and very competitive scoring gave us a close finish with Mark Harding (PH21) signing for 40 points winning just ahead of Bob Ansell (16) on 39 points and Chris Schofield (19) finishing on 38 points.
Last Saturday, the Competition Team provided the players with the latest in the programme of Winter “fun” events. This was a Team of 3, “Reverse Waltz”, where three scores count on hole 1, two best scores on hole 2 and the best score on the third and so on in that sequence to the 18th. The early starters, the team of Joseph Cromack, Arthikan Swanandarajah & John Aldington set a great target of 82 points which proved unsurpassable for the rest of the 32-team field. Their closest challengers were four points adrift on 78 points with two teams tied on that score. The back-nine count-back confirmed second place to Richard Jefferson, Ian Blackstone & Robbie Whellans leaving the trio of David Keywood, Darren Swales & Rich Danby in third.
